Dr. Johnny F. Cunningham was born in Escambia County Florida to the parents of Ethel Taylor and the late David Cunningham. He attended public school in Escambia County, Florida, and graduated in 1973 from Century High School. He started preaching at the age of four. The people in his community knew and understood that he had a calling from God upon his life, and they encouraged him to go forward. Dr. Cunningham accepted the encouragements and proceeded to preach in homes, schools and anywhere he had the opportunity to do so.
After graduating from high school, he was employed at Century Hospital in Century, Florida from 1973 to 1986. In 1982, he was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from Jefferson Davis Junior College. Bishop Cunningham also attended Florida Apostolic Bible Institute from 1986 to 1988 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree; during this time, he was working full time as a carpenter for Cunningham Construction. In 1988, he attended and graduated from Coastal Institute of Business in Pensacola, Florida. In 2000, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He later received his Master of Arts Degree in 2002 from Florida Apostolic Bible Institute, Cantonment, FL. In 2004, he received his Doctorate of Divinity from Florida Apostolic Bible Institute.
Dr. Cunningham served as National Evangelist of the A.F.M. Churches of God Inc. from 1978 to 1984. In 1985, Dr. Cunningham was appointed as the District Overseer of the Florida and Alabama District. Three years later, he was appointed Pastor of Beloved Apostolic Church of God in Selma, AL, by the Presiding Bishop of the A.F.M. Churches of God. Dr. Cunningham also worked for the Children’s Home Society in Pensacola, Florida, from 1988 to 1992. He founded and managed J & J Trucking Company in Century, Florida from 1992 - 2007. Dr. Cunningham served as Director on the Century Chamber of Commerce in Century, FL, 1994 to 1996.
Dr. Cunningham was appointed Director of the Florida Apostolic Bible Institute in 2000. He founded and incorporated TBBG Investment Corporation in 2002. Bishop Cunningham was also ordained as Bishop in the A.F.M. Church of God that same year. In 2003, he founded and incorporated Agape Community Economic Development, Inc., in Selma, Alabama, where he currently serves as CEO. In 2004, he was appointed Vice President of the Florida Apostolic Bible College & Vocational Institute. In 2006 he founded, incorporated, and served as CEO of Joint Heir Investors. In 2009, he was appointed Junior Prelate, National General Treasurer, and Chairman of the Executive Board of Bishops for the A.F.M. Churches of God, Inc.
Dr. Cunningham has traveled the United States, Africa and Israel preaching the message of Jesus Christ. He enjoys conducting workshops and seminars for youths, as well as workshops on finances, entrepreneurship, credit repair, church and nonprofit formation and regulation.
His hobbies are reading, fishing, traveling, song writing, tennis and carpentry.
