Hebrews 9:9-11 reads: (v9) Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; (v10) Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (v11) But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building.
When we compare the Old Covenant to the New Covenant, we realize that we have better promises based upon better conditions. The New Covenant is better than the Covenant of Moses, Aaron, and the others. When we look at what Christ has done for us, we see ways and conditions that are so much better than the Old Covenant. When you read and study the book of Hebrews, it should encourage you to have faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The Ordinances and Sacrifices of the Old Covenant could not have saved us, if that was the case, there wouldn’t have been a need for Jesus to come to liberate us. Every one of us was separated from God because of the fall of Adam. There was a great debt that needed to be paid; the justice of God demanded that sin must be paid for. The Bible says the “wages of sin is death”. When Adam failed, God immediately slew an innocent animal and covered the nakedness of the first man, Adam. It goes without saying that there is “the principle of first things” which will interpret how it is used throughout the scriptures. Therefore, BLOOD is the only witness that can speak on man's behalf. Continue reading
